Rest in today’s world can seem impossible. Especially for parents with packed full schedules, in addition to home chores, kiddo extracurriculars and even just grocery shopping. Or maybe you don’t feel overwhelmed with physical activities, but your mind is clouded with mental persecutions. Well I have a story for you today!
This past week I began reading the book of Hebrews. This prophetic book begins to talk about the importance of rest. Chapter 4 explains “all who believe enter the rest.” And that sneaky enemy placed doubts in my mind. “So if I don’t have rest does God not love me? If I’m struggling, is God keeping me from rest? Well this explains why I am so worried all the time… etc.” Ya’ll it was a whole ordeal and my own mind had made me so upset to the point of tears.
But that’s not the truth. That was MY truth. But God’s word says:
“Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. –Matthew 11:28
“Whoever dwells in the shadow of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the almighty.” -Psalms 91:1
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters.” -Psalm 23:2
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,” -Acts 3:19
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” -Isaiah 43:18
I have to share this with you, I had my sweet husband who prayed over me and reminded me the lies I was believing were tearing my mind apart.
The past and the way you used to live is a debt that has been paid. When you accepted Jesus as your High Priest, your sins were washed clean. Repentance brings rest. The person you once were does not define the person you are after being reborn in Christ.
I want to encourage you to bring your shame to God. Tell him you are angry with him, in search of answers. Tell Him you are upset, express the confusion you are holding onto, I promise in His timing He will bring enlightenment and wisdom. And dig into His word to refill your heart. Stand on a foundation of truth, the biblical truth, not your own truth. Our emotions are fleeting and we should not let them define us.

You are forgiven. You are worthy of God’s rest. That may look like spending time reading the Bible, listening to a podcast, blasting worship music while completing other tasks. God is always with us, waiting to spend time with Him. Your worries aren’t too big for God. You are a new creation in Christ, and that includes being able to rest in the midsts of a chaotic season.
I pray the Father be with you as you navigate each season.
Love,
Kelso 🩷
